Fish: Colorado River Cutthroat

Cutties at 10k

Escaping the triple digit heat was goal 1, catching n releasing pretty cutts was goal 2. Took the kayak to lake 1, caught n released four pretty fish, looked like they had just finished spawning. Red spoons and green Montera Marvels. The next lake had bigger fish but by 1 it was raining, so left the kayak in the truck, used a pink n orange spoon to get a couple decent ones before the real rain shut down the bite. This female still had a couple eggs left so they are at the tail end. Slow bite with spawn but should pick up now if you find a lake that isn't starting turnover, these two lakes are on Grand Mesa. Lots and lots of people up there today.

You must not have been at the lakes I was thinking of if there were lots and lots of people unless they have now blazed an ATV trail in there like everywhere else. Hope not. How were the mosquitoes, they usually start to taper off about now, so I have been thinking of going up myself. Nice pic!

Well done Jerry, great looking area and fish. Hope we can get a trip up there together someday. I'll take you to Elkhead you take me to these lakes. Sounds like a good trade but Elkhead will be a lot hotter temp wise.

Thanks, guys. Yep, Al, gotta ration those Marvels, only a dozen left for me, they hit the Gutwagon, my fav. Russ, get our Alaska trips over, then next summer, we gotta do both places maybe a month apart. Plus Rifle Gap n Harvey pigtailed with Elkhead. Big walleye, pike n smallies, avoid the weekend madness at RG by going there during the week. Who needs Canada? Thoughts? Oh yeah, we let the perch at RG have a year off for the most part so get them too!

YD-still time to get kids together for Grand Mesa Tiger trout, how 'bout Sunday?

Wmdunker-that is Silver Lake, little cars drive in there but slot limit , c n r, and F&L keeps traffic down and fish smart. Other lakes by the roads had lots of folks getting out of the heat, weekdays are much less crowded.

Sounds good to me. Need to look at you spending a day or two this way for some Pueblo walleye too.

Thanx Diggin - I have only been there a couple of times and found the fish a little finicky, but not impossible. I might have to try some brighter colors based on what you were using. I have been using more lifelike colors and have not had great success.
