Love that little day hike. I've been taking my boys up there since they were 8 and 10 (about 8 years). Great lake for flies and Pistol Petes. Did you come in from Summit Lake or Echo Lake? I've come in from Summit once and never again but I had to try if once.

I came in from Summit last year wasn't too bad. A lot shorter but much steeper.

We came in on Echo. Summit looks way to steep. Did you go up to Summit on your way out?

Yes, hiked in and back out since it was shorter than hiking in from Summit then out to Echo then a very long walk around on the road back to the truck. Definitely shorter hike. The way in is straight down and back out is straight up. You could probably jump out as far as you can and you would land most of the way down. Lol

Btw Nativecuttie, beautiful shot down.

Thanks it was fun. Going to do it again this year at some point so I can have some more time fishing.

Nice Photos, They look kind of small this year. Most of the one I caught were super Fat and about 15-18"

I am pretty sure that you have to be a resident of Idaho Springs to fish Idaho Springs Res. Not 100% positive on that but there are posted regulations at the lake.

I had thought about snow shoeing up to these lakes in the winter with camping gear. Amazing place in the summer so I bet it would be even more beautiful in the winter. Also haul hand auger and an ice rod.

The signs at Idaho Springs Reservior only say it's catch and release, so I'm not sure about the resident thing. I've fished it but only see very small fish.

You dont have to be a resident. Led2 zep could vouch for that.

You are correct in that you don't HAVE to be a resident to fish it but in order to fish it legally, you may want to read the regulations on access.

I found out about that place from "Fishing Close to Home" publication so it must be available for the public. Also, I only c&r so I can't attest to the c&r only signs because it's implied to me wherever.

Native, great pics! One of my favorite places in Co and those pics brought me back.

Just got a response from the City Clerk.

Only Idaho Springs residents are allowed access to the key for the gate. We cannot control people who access the reservoir from “walking in”.

Did notice too that in addition to cnr, it is lures only. Not sure on stocking though.

I just wondered if any of you guys had fished it--didn't know there was a gate (I'm jealous of that deal though). I only knew it was a tough hike from Echo Lake--wondered if it was worth it. I do C & R too.

Do you have to pay to camp here just curious?

Even being a native resident of Idaho springs that key is hard to get
