15lb Carp on a Jerkbait? (and 4lb Test!)

Post By: BFS Trout Lad (Zanedaddydollars)      Posted: 5/20/2016 9:32:32 PM     Points: 393
Hit the Arapahoe Bend Ponds today with my ultralight gear and ultralight jerkbaits.

Caught around 30 or so 6 inch crappie, and 5 small bass.

Threw into the shallows, then BOOM got a hit and immediately knew it was a carp.

He started to rip line and take those long runs soon after. I was slightly concerned about the 4lb test holding up, But my trusty little Stradic ci4+ 1000 was taking the long runs like a CHAMP. Was about a 5 minute fight, banked him, snapped a shot and released him.

This fish could have been an extra 10 pounds on him and I am confident that Drag system would still handle the fish with ease. I knew the drag system was good on these Stradics, but just didn't know how well until I hooked into this fish today. Can't wait to get a 2500!

Cool post and i like how the pic shows the carp actually made an intentional strike at it too. What lure was that? I like it

I have to agree Ultralight, there really aren't many sounds out that beat the screaming drag on a spinning reel!

If any of you are wondering, the Stradic ci4+ 1000 is coupled on a St. Croix Panfish Series 6'9 Ultralight rod.

The tip is very responsive, but the backbone of the rod is a bit stiffer than other ultralight rods.

This is my Go-To for dropshotting for all species. You can feel EVERYTHING with it.
