Smith--invite

Post By: bron      Posted: 5/4/2016 7:12:34 AM     Points: 49470
I put a post up on the plus side about meeting up with FXR folks at Smith Res. in Lakewood on 5/15. Wanted to include the new guys like MikeV that aren't plus members so I'm reposting it here. We will show up at dawn and fish most the day. See you there!

bron I would like to meet up if the invite is good for me as well. that is where my oldest brother taught me the basics of fishing.

Invite is for everyone--look forward to meeting you!

southcat don't do it! it's a trap. Next thing you know bron will be offering candy and puppies to anyone that will get in his creepy van. lol

But, he has candy, candy is dandy.
Reply by: Ziriux      Posted: 5/4/2016 7:51:26 AM     Points: 0
It depends on the candy, I don't consider tootsie rolls candy.
Reply by: Toadfish      Posted: 5/4/2016 7:59:28 AM     Points: 3831
Wait.... I'm NOT supposed to get in the van :-/ this information would've been good to know 2 weeks ago... Should be a blast and with the weather warming up the fishing SHOULD be pretty good too!
Reply by: bron      Posted: 5/4/2016 8:08:56 AM     Points: 49470
I don't use candy or puppies. I just say--"There's an old tacklebox full of lures in the van if you want to look through them".
Reply by: Ziriux      Posted: 5/4/2016 8:56:10 AM     Points: 0
In that case i'm getting in the van.
Reply by: southcat king      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:08:41 AM     Points: 30
done I always need more lures
Reply by: southcat king      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:10:17 AM     Points: 30
I look forward to meeting you as well, where is the designated meeting spot?
Reply by: bron      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:20:15 AM     Points: 49470
We'll all be parking on South Moore Court. I have fished this lake several times with only dink perch to show for it and I blame laziness. We are going to the far side of the lake and fishing off the rip rap. There was actually some talk about a lure swap too after fishing. In my original post I ask if folks wouldn't mind bringing a grocery bag to pick up any trash while we are all there.
Reply by: Ziriux      Posted: 5/4/2016 11:22:31 AM     Points: 0
The only lures I'll be swapping are kastmasters since that is pretty much all I got.
Reply by: southcat king      Posted: 5/4/2016 1:07:43 PM     Points: 30
right on i'll probably meet you up on the riprap I like to park by the church on the east side. i'll see if I can get some of my favorite lures to swap.

Sounds like fun, I might make it. Typically I don't fish sunday's but that's a mighty tempting invite. Meet more people and fish a new water......hrmmmm.
Reply by: bron      Posted: 5/4/2016 6:20:10 PM     Points: 49470
That would be cool Dzilla. Im sure some big fish are in there.
Reply by: Toadfish      Posted: 5/4/2016 6:51:04 PM     Points: 3831
You think it's possible that FxR could take over the entire reservoir? I mean if we get enough people were gonna need a lot of shoreline... Especially for them guys what fishes for kitties
 Reply by: D-Zilla      Posted: 5/4/2016 7:38:35 PM     Points: 2474
I never knew you could fish that one. I've fished Main (right up the street) but never Smith.

Hope they have LOTS of parking, because most of us drive BIG trucks!

We might line the street pretty good D. Now if Tom or Dave would show up since its in the hood.

No problem for AWB, Why you think its called a ram ?
Reply by: anglerwannabe      Posted: 5/4/2016 8:36:38 PM     Points: 74305
just let a Miata be in the spot I want
Reply by: Toadfish      Posted: 5/4/2016 8:37:53 PM     Points: 3831
I also drive a big Dodge Ram. This poor neighborhood is going to think Country Jam rolled up to their front doors :-P (not saying anything bad about country music)

Bron --
What species are in Smith? Assuming bass, panfish, perch, catfish... Anything else? Would like to join everyone up there. Also like the idea of a cleanup around the reservoir - would pitch in for that.

I think my buddy, caleblumbard, and I can make it. Haha I will be adding to the list of trucks with my Silverado.

They've been really slow at smith lately. Havent caught a decent smallmouth from there for 2 or so years. Seems like the largemouth there have been doing better. I probably can't make it but I don't know if I'd want to come since apparently I take people's spots haha good luck to everyone going! Friend had luck on spinner baits.

Im going for cats on one pole and small game on the other. For the one who asked on species... two state record SM bass have come from this lake. I have only caught perch....so far. Sure there are big carp there and from the lake photos there must be cats.
Reply by: Toadfish      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:19:54 PM     Points: 3831
I'm going to have to take a trip tomorrow and see if I can get some lil guys to bite. This weekend I will be targeting cats on 1 and other fishes on the other

According to CPW,

LMB
SMB
Perch
Channel Kitties.
Black Crappie.

They don't list any thing else, so there's that. I do know there are carp in nearby lakes, so I'd assume bron is right on those. (Bucket Biology and unlisted bonus fish)

That and Carp seem to show up in just about EVERY body of water for some reason.

Having never fished it myself, I couldn't tell you, but I'll come out and throw the box at it.

There's green sunfish, bluegill, and suckers there too.
Reply by: Toadfish      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:27:58 PM     Points: 3831
Bron, I sent you an email on your skipper link, let me know if you don't get it please

dam right Toad, country is the best boy. :p
Reply by: bron      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:36:23 PM     Points: 49470
Supposidly wipers and pike were put in there too but I find that hard to believe. Sure would be cool if someone did get one though.
Reply by: ColoradoOutdoorsman      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:43:24 PM     Points: 821
They did stock walleyes in like 2000 i think it was. Me and my buddy spotlighted the dam like a week ago though to see if there were any left and just saw carp and some panfish.
Reply by: bron      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:53:40 PM     Points: 49470
I think that if any of the special stockers are still there they are few and far between....but AWB and Kevo will undoubtably each catch one. I do really think someone will get a big smallie though.
Reply by: ColoradoOutdoorsman      Posted: 5/4/2016 9:56:10 PM     Points: 821
I don't know, the smallies have been really uncooperative lately. I'm putting my money on some good sized largies. Been catching quite a few of them.
Reply by: Ziriux      Posted: 5/4/2016 11:53:02 PM     Points: 0
If Pike was put in there that would explain people not catching much from the reservoir, but like someone else said I don't think there's pike in there. Either way I'm looking forward to meeting up with you guys and maybe I'll catch my first worthy Colorado bass.
