Whitefish on the Fork

I've always wondered how those taste.

Have never tried a whitefish but have heard they are somewhat oily and do well in the smoker.

@dakotadude they are fantastic! Bread them in egg and Kentucky kernel batter and fry em up. They are also great smoked. Cutting the bone lines out are a pain but the taste is worth it.

Very nice, I agree they are good eaters smoked or deep fried.

Dang nice!! I've heard from the midwest folks saying they taste better than white bass!

I used to catch a lot of them in the winter from the White River near Meeker. They pull like a freight train, but have a soft bite. Fun to catch and usually in large schools in the deeper holes.

Whitefish smoked are fantastic, better than many smoked salmons. I don't care for them fresh, too oily for my taste, but than I'm not overly found of trout either.

A conditions report for the river would be highly appreciated.

Nice haul...What flies were they going for if you don't mind me asking?

@moorefish was using 3 beadheads, Hares ear follwed by green drake followed by red copper john.
