Long Lake

I hit up Long Lake up in Indian peaks on sunday. I got there at 515 and fished until about 10. I managed to catch 4 Brookies varying from 10-14 inches on 1/4 oz kast masters in varying colors. I tried fly fishing for a little with no success. The gate at the bottom was open but once you got to Brainard Lake the road was closed. So, if anyone is going its about a 20-30 min walk to Long lake. The water was crystal clear. Also, along the shore is pretty marshy and still quite a bit of snow. I would recommend wearing waders or a good set of hiking boots.

did you do any fishing in the creek connecting the two lakes?

No I just fished the lake. Saw some guys fly fishing the creek on my way out. How is the fishing in creek?

fished it a couple times and there were a couple of schools of brookies stacked up against some logs but that was a couple years ago.

Whenever I go up there the creek always looks inviting but I always end up just going to the lake. Next time I might have to hit it up.

You definitely could spend the weekend or the week there hiking to all the lakes in that area.

I can never seem to find the regulation stated online but there is always a sign there at the long lake trailhead saying fishing in the outlet stream between Long and Brainard is prohibited until I believe July 15th, every year. I assume it's some attempt to protect spring spawning fish but it's 99% brookies in that creek and they spawn in the fall, so I don't know the reason...but the sign has been there every year I've gone.

Yeh, there is usually a sign that says that. I don't remember seeing it yesterday but I wasn't really looking for it. I have never found it in the regs where it says that either.
