Lake: Hyland Ponds
Fish: Common Carp

The Captain was right--3 lake day

Post By: bron      Posted: 6/1/2015 7:34:24 AM     Points: 29819
We couldn't decide what lake to hit yesterday so we decided to hit all 3 of the venues in discussion. My son kept insisting that his lake--Hyland Ponds--was the best choice though and he ended up being right. First was Sloans and we managed 1 bite in 2 hours. Then we hit Birdland and we didn't even get a bite there. At Hyland I had a 3# carp before we could even get all our lines in the water. Blake hooked 3 but only landed 1 because the carp kept hitting the worms on his lightweight spincast instead of the carp bait on his heavy duty rod. Caught a bluegill too. Was nice meeting up with Goosehunter at Hyland too!

Good times guys. I have the video of Blake fighting the carp for about 4 minutes but I think it's too big to add it. I really just don't know what I'm doing.

The carp may look dumb, but they are pretty smart and they are very weary - if they can feel the line, or get a little poke from your hook, the spit out your bait in the hurry. Guess they liked those worms, though... :) Nice pics.

They are very smart. They stripped his line and went right into brush so he ended up snagged and broke off.

I had a really good time fighting those carp. They weren't that big but they fought really hard! They were not happy to have a hook in there mouth.

Sounds like a good time.

Now I know where Birdland is. I have fished there a couple of times. It's small but s few descent bass in there and easy to spot the carp. Never targeted the carp though.

Weirdest thing Spicey....we were sittin there with nothing going on and at least 12 carp burst out of the water at the same time right in front of us. Whole lake was churned up. Never saw that before.

Nice catch! Looks like a good spot for bassing too! Not too far from me either!

We havn't caught a bass there yet (at Hyland). Saw people fish for them without success while we were there. I have heard of people getting small ones there. They are nice ponds though--good luck!
