Teller Lake #5 A Waste Of Time- Here Is Why

Post By: jig head      Posted: 4/11/2015 6:17:17 AM     Points: 803
It was dry in oct of 2012! Spending big $$ to remove the goldfish from this lake is a waste of time and money. The lake might be only about 4' deep at the most and it was a total loss just a few years ago when it went dry. I'm getting the feeling that the CPW needs to put their priorities towards other things than this wasted little puddle.

The fish that I saw that were still alive were all carp. Then the lake totaly dried up a week or so later. Not much potential for this place but for carp and now I guess goldfish?

Thanks for the post, that is definitely an interesting case. Is pic 3 a mass of carp in the middle of the lake splashing?

The reason it was dry was due to the drought. Just a little more info for you. For the record, CPW isn't the only group working on this, Boulder County has a big hand in it as well. So lets not go bashing CPW. Also, they may not care about that lake, but they do care what is down stream and the damage it can have on other waters that YOU may care about.

If you look at things with the narrow view of "what's in it for me" or "if it was mine, I would do this" you will never see more than a small piece of the pie.

A lot more goes into the water management of our lakes than keeping some fishermen happy. A LOT MORE...

There were pike and muskie in the lake before it drained. Sure it was mostly cats and carp but I think it's worth working on the lake to make it into a fishery.

Maybe the CPW/Boulder can be convinced to dredge it after removing the goldfish. Maybe we at FXR can offer volunteer hours to fill it with structure.

I dunno, I'm just spitballing here but giving any fishery up for loss in a state with so few bodies of water doesn't seem prudent to me.

I did well at both Teller lakes before the drought, floods, and now goldfish. I hope they Rototone it and start over so it doesnt spread.

Good points. I guess the biggest concern would be the goldies getting into other waters.
