idk what it is, but for the past 3 years ive caught 1 maybe 2 fish (little ones near hayden pump station) from the yampa river. i can remember as a kid pulling 50 inch pike and 4-5lb trout from the yampa river. what happened? what is the plan of action if any to fix this? i know the fly guys in steamboat dont seem too effected, but below hayden its a wasteland. now they are talking about draining elkhead, where are we going to go fish? check off another one of the few activities to do around here. tired of driving 60 miles one way to catch a fish.

I wish I only had to drive 60 miles one way to fish.

If I had to drive 60 miles to fish, I'd move!

closest worth while spots from craig (in my opinion) are the upper yampa (steamboat) and the white river upstream of meeker. kind of sad when we have a river running right through the town. i admit, most of it is private access only. the public spots are for boats and dont have very many opportunities for a bank fisherman

I spent a few yrs in the Stagecoach area before they built the dam there,we fished the flat-tops a lot and also fished some of the small lakes on the road that goes up from Stagecoach to Red dirt pass.

Why do they want to drain Elkhead?

they are looking at options to control the non-native species in elkhead. there was a post a while back about it.

Yeah I agree. But rest assured you’ll be allowed to pay 7$ and fish stocker trout at elkhead one day.
