Lake: Summit Lake

Froze out in July?

Post By: bron      Posted: 7/23/2014 9:03:25 AM     Points: 45686
My son and I hit Summit Monday but only lasted a half hour. It was 48 degrees and the wind was blowing at least 30 MPH. Even with his coat and a blanket he was freezing so we gave up on the fishing and did other things in Idaho Springs. No bites.

Been there, done that so now I always take an extra jacket just in case. It's close to 13,000 feet up there so you never know what the weather is like.

That's why I have that fleece blanket in my truck. When you're ten years old you don't want to put up with those conditions for long. At that altitude you can have different weather conditions every 20 minutes.

Was up there the end of June last summer and still had a good layer of ice on the lake. Can't beat the scenery though. Know anything bout the lake down below or how often it gets fished?

Only what's on the lake page--it's Lincoln Lake. We were at Summit the end of June last year too--it was half frozen but I caught 3 cutthroats that day. It was fun watching the icebergs float by!
