Fishing at Clear Lake

Post By: moorefish      Posted: 5/14/2014 1:39:40 PM     Points: 125
Thinking of going to clear lake this weekend. Does anyone know if you can camp there this time of year and what the fishing is like there. I have seen some reports of small brookies but I am curious to see if anyone has landed anything of size there?
Thanks moorefish

Check on water level before you make plans. Last summer the wife and I took the yaks up for a day of Brookies on the fly and found the lake pretty much empty. In the past I've caught decent sized Bows there along with the Brookies ...but have no idea what the fishing status is since the huge drawdown.

The lake gate and camping gate were still closed a week ago. 1/3 of the lake was still frozen. Lake looked low but it was my first time there. Seen a few rams on the way up!

Cool pics. In the summer of 2012, wife and I just about chased a Moose down the road to Georgetown. She was in the we slowed down...and she would hit the woods...we'd round a switchback...there she'd be in the road again...we'd stop...she'd hit the woods again...never got a pic (it was dark).

Seeing more Moose in the East Central foothills than I ever remember. Lots in the Berthoud Pass area as well.
