What great weather we had this weekend for the first backpacking trip of the year! We started up Waterton Canyon Saturday at 9:15 or so on bikes and did the 6.5 miles to the Colorado Trail junction. Then we locked the bikes up and headed up the trail. Finally reached shore at Strontia at 1:15, exhausted.
Bear creek runs well at this time of year with very clear water the fish are very spooky. Managed a few nice rainbows in the creek 1 perch, 1 brown and several more bows from the shore of the reservoir over the weekend. Then added one more brown in Waterton on the way down.
Leaving camp Sunday afternoon was way too soon. We're all complaining about how sore we are from the 35+ pound packs this morning, but that doesn't mean we won't be back soon! A few pics from the trip below
