Escaping the wind to catch 'em

Post By: Beaverman      Posted: 4/29/2014 5:55:21 PM     Points: 443
I figured that since work shut down do to high winds, that I would try to find a place that was a little less windy to wasn't bad once I got a ways up the canyon, the wind gusts still came through, but they were usually brief. I found several decent browns and one nice cutbow...I think. I used some tactics from Lachance's show and they worked well. Tomorrow will be windy again, so maybe if you want to get out you should head up a canyon.

Thanks man, they looked right when I chose them. I guess catching fish is sometimes easier than using this new technology.

Congratulations , We went up the mtn side yesterday and caught a few too. Although yours are nicer! lol

Was it crazy where you were at? We would have crazy winds, and then it would die, and then cloud cover, and then calm with sun and then several snow flurries. When they started to bite, the bite was on for about 15 to 20 mins and we caught several.. and then it was over.

Yeah, I would get an occasional gust, but it wasn't bad. I took a spinning rod just in case and caught fish the whole time on flies and spinning gear both. Then went back up Wednesday and got

Is that a float rod? It looks pretty long to be a fly or spinning rod and the guides look like ones you would find on a float rod.

Not a float rod...that was my spinning rod, I kind of cheated on this one and casted my little jig downstream and brought it up slow bumping off the rocks. I actually thought I hooked a rock for a brief moment until it started swimming.
