Well, we got skunked at Zimmerman. I just about died also. This was my second time on snowshoes... pulling a smitty sled with my shelter and gear. Wanna guess how long it took me? I was moving at an average of 0.75 mi / hr!!! Yes, it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to walk the one mile, uphill. Downhill was much better, but I have to figure out how to steer that thing.
It was basically calm, we were the only ones icefishing. Found Grammarus, freshwater shrimp, or fairy shrimp near shore, breeding. They were huge!! I'd guess about 0.5" in length.
Anyways, my guess is the fish were full and had probably headed to the inlet.
There was about 12 to 15" of snow on top of slush, ice, slush, ice in most places... an extra layer of ice and slush closer to the dam. The actually lake ice was at least a good 24".
Trail was okay going in... great coming out.
It was a great day overall and awesome to see all the snow.
