Ice fishing Barnes Meadows for first time this Saturday. Any suggestions for bait or other insights would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not an ice fisherman but I normally do well on the southwest corner of the lake. Please submit an update when you get back.

Use snowshoes, take a shovel... and be ready for small fish, but a lot of fun.

I may be going up to Zimmerman with a friend.
Joe Wright has 50" of snow on it currently. Link:

Hope you have a great time!! A conditions report, as mentioned earlier, would be great!!

Well how did it go?

Well, we got skunked at Zimmerman. I just about died also. This was my second time on snowshoes... pulling a smitty sled with my shelter and gear. Wanna guess how long it took me? I was moving at an average of 0.75 mi / hr!!! Yes, it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to walk the one mile, uphill. Downhill was much better, but I have to figure out how to steer that thing.
It was basically calm, we were the only ones icefishing. Found Grammarus, freshwater shrimp, or fairy shrimp near shore, breeding. They were huge!! I'd guess about 0.5" in length.
Anyways, my guess is the fish were full and had probably headed to the inlet.
There was about 12 to 15" of snow on top of slush, ice, slush, ice in most places... an extra layer of ice and slush closer to the dam. The actually lake ice was at least a good 24".
Trail was okay going in... great coming out.

It was a great day overall and awesome to see all the snow.

Sorry to be slow to respond, work getting in the way of my fishing.

Fished Barnes Meadow Saturday 3/2. A foot of snow on 18 inches of ice. Brought snow shoes but did not use them - should have. Tough getting in and out.

Fished in 20 feet of water - fish suspended between 12 to 16 feet. Caught a few healthy fish.

New blades for electric auger, what a difference that made.

Thanks to fishseal and bronc for info.
