Thinking about trying Douglas in the next couple days

Post By: Orion      Posted: 1/29/2013 1:55:08 PM     Points: 689
I just wanted to put it out that I'll probably try and hit Douglas for some sauger or anything else that will bite in the next few days, I need to beat my Douglas skunk that I have from the last 2 times I've been. I haven't decided which day yet but I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in meeting out there. I usually like the people I meet from this forum so I want to try and meet more of them this year. If you're interested in trying for some sauger or hanging out at Douglas shoot me an email, orion.aon at gmail dot com, or post here and we can talk days and times.

Unfortunately I'm in school during the week in Denver but I plan to hit Douglas when I get off work on Saturday morning. I get off work around 4 am and plan to be at Douglas by 5. If anyone is interested, let me know. Orion (or anyone else for that matter), if you make it out to Douglas the next few days then submit a conditions report.

Solo I might be able to meet you out there Saturday as well. I have an appointment at noon but if you're going to be out there super early then I could stop by for a couple hours. Shoot me an email and I'll give you my number unless you still have it from when I text you last time you were going to Douglas, if that's the case just shoot me a text reminding me which number is yours.

If I make it out before Saturday I'll update the conditions so you'll know what to expect. From the weather report i think the ice should be solid for a bit but you never know!

I was planning on hitting it Sunday but may be able to make it Saturday morning also. Solo, I think I met you on Barnes Meadow last year. Orion, I believe we fished together on Joe Wright several years ago.

We definitely did fishslap, I remember you, haha. I think I'll be doing superbowl things on Sunday but keep in touch! I'm always looking for fishing buddies to go out with.

I fished Douglas today and the ice is holding at 6 to 8 inches along the dam. Still can't catch any of the saugers in there but did manage a couple of trout and a giant crappie on minnows. Hooked a huge largemouth and lost him at the hole. Be careful along the edges-some of the ice is pretty thin. Good luck if you guys head out there.

Orion- I never received a text from you that I'm aware of. I'll shoot you an email.

Fishslap- we did indeed meet at Barnes Meadow. I think it was the day you caught the nice laker at Joe Wright if I recall correctly. Let me know if you're going to make it out to Douglas on Saturday. I probably won't stay past 9. I need my sleep.

Thanks for the information ColoradoRay, if you have a minute could you update the lake conditions page? That would be awesome!

Solo- strange, maybe I typed the wrong number in. Either way I got your email. I shoot you a reply tonight.

Orion-
Sent in a update but I guess it still hasn't posted. If you go out, try shallow water first and work deeper. I had some luck in 5 feet of water.

Ray- awesome!! The skipper or editor has to approve the conditions report, that's why it hasn't posted yet. Thanks for the tips! I might fish there tomorrow, are you using minnows?

Alright everyone, I will be hitting Douglas Friday morning probably between 8 and 10 depending on how I'm feeling. If anyone wants to meet me out there let me know! I'll probably be up by the dam somewhere wearing all black, no ice hut. Come say hi if you see me out there.

I'll also be out there with solo on Saturday morning.

Orion,
I usually do good with minnows at Douglas. Fish them close to the bottom on a deadstick. Sometimes I will slowly jig with them too - let em drop to the bottom and sit and then slowly jig em up a couple of feet. Stop by and see Duane at Betty's Bait and Tackle in Ft Collins. He just got in some fresh minnows that have some size to em. Good luck on your ventures.

Bennets in Berthoud has been keeping minnows in stock also. As always, I would call first.
