Post By: mlovato      Posted: 6/16/2012 6:33:47 PM     Points: 15
Has anyone been to lake Isabel lately and have any info? I haven't been there since I was 14-15 years old (23 years or so) and was curious if the fishing was good there. Thanks.

The fam and I usually try to hit this place atleast twice A year
but has not came across the list yet.

But this place is still stocked regularly and last year the kids
had A blast there, Both camping and fishing..

The kids used PB. on the bottom (sure Bet) for the kids.
Good ole chrome Kasty worked well for me..

Please let me know how you do out there.

Just A side note:
It is exactly 98.3 miles from my
driveway to the south parking lot.

Nothing pertinent just one of those little facts
I keep in my log.

Yes. I've fished it a number of times and its a sweet little lake.
IFF, there is a nice campsite. I'm trying to remember, its either a city or county park and does have an entry fee or use fee. [its not on our lakes listing]
I've had a great time using UL gear and fly gear. Good numbers, I've had 100+ fish days with a #0 Mepps or a 1/32 oz Panther Martin.

I've gotten four types of trout several times, which is a hoot.

Bishops Castle is Not Creepy Its Awesome..Me&The Daughter was just talking bout that place the other day..I used to work at Midwest Steel In PLO and he used to come in and get metal and plate all the time, hes kinda weird but o would be to if you had to endure what Jim has went through in his life
Them Kokes Do Exist but seams like ice fishing is the only time you ever hear about them being caught

Nice guy, very talkative, and definitely has some roadblocks in his way....

but dude is crazy. he met criteria for paranoid scizophrenia verbatum. And, while the castle is very awesome, it is also very unsafe.... people who visit it need to be aware that it has not passed any codes or safety inspections and every step above ground level is prone for movement. You can watch the towers sway, even with no wind. the "stairs" are held in place by rebar, in some instances, one piece.... people will boast "oh, its safe, cmon now..." but it is most definitely not. The place was made with zero blueprints, zero safety code in mind, and was "winged" in the mind of a scizoid.

with that being said, this guy built it himself, with his bare hands. sure, the government is trying to make a dime off of him and that is a shame.... it should be a stop for anyone in the area, as it is truly a feat. I will be back!

The fishing at lake san isabel was entertaining. Ive been up there twice, not this year though. last year around memorial day was my last time. trout were very active. the ranger presence was strong there as well. Very friendly and actually recommended a safe, legal place for me and my group to 4x4 our jeeps. they were also very by the book regarding campfires and limits. they had actually sited, then had to remove our neighboring campsite's inhabitants due to breaking the rules.

i do remember the wind being very strong our last day there though. strong enough to blow my friends 6 person tent about 300 yards away and snap its posts off of a tree.... if camping, i would bring a camper or extra long tent steaks, they are a great investment, and they only costed me probably about 10 bucks. Has anyone else had the same issue with the wind up there or was it a freak occurance? Im talking AT LEAST 50-60 mph, not gusts either.....
