Iowa Trip

Went on a vacation to visit family in Iowa. We stayed at Bridges Bay resort on East Lake Okoboji in Northwestern Iowa. The trip wasn't for fishing, but I managed to sneak in a few fishing excursions. And I am glad I did! The fishing was non-stop around the bridge between Upper Gar and East Okoboji. White bass was the main catch, but there were Largemouths to keep me interested when the white bass action slowed down. The fish weren't huge, but they hit like a ton of bricks and really gave a tussle. They were biting on two inch long silver and firetiger Rat-l-traps burned just beneath the surface. Size two Mepps Aglia Streamers also took fish. The Largies came on a black jitterbug. Got into some bluegills off the docks with Gulp worms and maggots. Speaking of Gulp, the Berkley plant is in Spirit Lake, IA, which is just a few miles from where we were staying. I also went fishing in the Little Sioux River. We had little luck. Only one small catfish. We had caught some nice Walleyes from the river in recent years, but we couldn't get into them this year. We used chicken livers and worms.

Good work on sneaking some fishin' in and on the variety pack you caught. It shows well rounded skills. I'm going to the Berkley facility soon and will report back on whatever they'll allow. Watch for the new Gulp! Alive to hit shelves soon. That stuff has amazed me for smallies. CL
