Walley at Carter

Post By: ElderBrother      Posted: 7/22/2007 7:25:22 AM     Points: 29
I'm beginning to be of the opinion that Carter's Walleye population is eating the trout. In my last 4 outings, I have seen zero trout. The last time was in May when I caught a very nice 17" greenback. Since then there's been nothing but Walleye on the end of my line. Yesterday (7/21) was a good day with 5 Walleye over 12" and the longest at 18". Water temp was over 70 degrees.

One thing is for sure, the water has plummeted there since May - it peaked in May and since June has dropped 27 feet. Also, water temps have jumped 15 degrees since the beginning of June, into the mid 70's. Have you tried at all at dawn or dusk?

At least you're getting some walleye, so that's good. There are some huge walleye in Carter. This year the DOW did a spawn there to reach their goals and I hear there's seriously large specimens to be had. Just gotta get past the small fish!
