New State Record Flathead Cat Pueblo

Post By: Browns Hunter      Posted: 10/15/2011 8:52:41 PM     Points: 2140
Well, it may not be very big compared with how big a Flathead Cat can get... but at least it appears these newcomers are doing well enough in Pueblo...

Nice fish!
Anyone know any additional details?

given what's in the arkansas valley and when they were last stocked and how fast they grow... that 15 lber is a baby compared to what's swimming around pueblo.

I'm surprised that nobody has shattered that record by fishing turks or john martin. nobody knows how to fish for flatheads....

Wow I hit the nail on the head on that one. Good stuff, congrats my man! Certainly raises the bar again, makes the game that much funner though. Doesn't seem to be a newcomer though, guys been at Pueblo since the 70's.

Glad they got it checked out, and now of record for him.
Last Flathead I tangled with was a 65 pound one in Kansas, ice fishing
What a surprise that was, I would think there may be some at least
that large in a water like Pueblo. How long have flatheads been
in Pueblo ? Water too cold for them ?

the fleatheads and blues are relatively new in colorado in general. there are a fair amount of them in pueblo. i have recently caught some in the 10 inch range just bass fishing.

my dad is from arkansas and moved here in the 70s and has fished pueblo res almost every summer since even now if its any time between may and september we are down there every weekend through the summer we are the guys who have a fleet of canoes me,my dad ,and my brothers
my dad missed the stae record blue cat or he ma have had it and didnt know because are scale was kinda of cheap the blue weighed 19lb 12oz

it was one heck of a night my brother who was back from the marines caught a pearch and thats what we used as bait was the key we use power pro braid beacuse of the stregnth to sze ratio it makes for really smooth and long casts my dad caught it on his dads old spinning reel hes really old school how he fishes we dont use real expensive gear its kinda cool because we always fish from shore and its not expensive to fish the way we do some people woulde call us redknecks but we are just as much conservationist as any other fisherman we usualy dont keep the big ones they dont taste that great so we let them go and never think about the records because we eat what we catch and dont keep a bunch its all about fun but now i would say theres a little competition bewtween me and my dad and bros th
this picture was of the blue cat he caught the same summer that was a big fish that we realeased i think the best fish to catch is the carp they are big and fight hard

If you caught it using any mustad hook they'll give you a million bucks

There is a little more to the Mustad contest then just that.
You have to be registered to win and use a mustad hook, the grand prize is only the million dollar one And it needs to be a IGFA certified World Record to win a $1 Million.
The others are only the 100k prizes.
And flat heads are not on the list of fish in the contest.
