I am new to the Lake City area, but am vacationing for 4 days in early August. Is it worth it to rent a boat on Lake San Cristobal? Any tricks out there for catching lake trout? Not many posts on this lake. I may also try spinner fishing the Lake fork of the Gunnison, or Cebolla Creek.

Worth always depends on what you're looking for. I think I would concentrate on the streams/rivers right now. Blue Mesa is likely a better fish, but either should produce good numbers of 10-12 inch fish. Large lakers will be deeper right now.

I second the Macks will be deep, I have been wanting to get down there with my sonar and jig for them. Should be haning out in 60-85 feet of water. Spin fishing the lake fork, may surprise you, the Bows there are a scarpy bunch.
