Grand Lake Fishing Help!!??

Post By: ErockFisher      Posted: 6/30/2011 7:56:24 PM     Points: 10
Hey im going to grand lake mid July will probably spend most of the vacation fishing, (although my family will try despratly to get me to do somthing else) I have never been to grand lake, and hope to catch some nice trout. Any tips?? We are renting a house on the lake so i will be fishing from shore, i know the macs will probably be deeper, but is there any way i could go for some rainbow trout in the shallows. Thanks for the help

I would fish shadow mountain by the inlet area or down by the spillway for rainbows, browns, and kokes and if your up for it there is about a mile hike from the spillway area back into columbine bay and there is also good rainbow action there too... as far as grand lake and granby goes i have only fished there for macks but I'm sure you could hook into rainbows using the standard baits... good luck!

If you are shore fishing, there's not a lot of public shore access on Grand Lake. Shadow Mtn is a great lake for bows and browns. From the Shadow Mtn dam, you can walk and fish your way back to Grand Lake. Easy hike.

Thanks for the info, we are renting a private house on "quiet end" of the lake which i asume is the south eastern corner. The house does have watter access with a dock. Any specific lures that work for the rainbow trout in the area. I know power bait usually works, but is there any specific color. Thanks agian guys.

Walk the dam at dusk and dawn throughing jerk baits and rapalals , brown cruse the dam during low light conditions , we have had great luck there in years past.

Will also be up there this weekend. I fish mostly flies down the river from Shadow Mountain. I use a size 16 caddis with a pheasant tail nymph dropper works great. Also at dusk a well weighted meal worm in the spillway works great for browns. Good Fishing.
