who does this?

Post By: paulent      Posted: 9/19/2010 7:11:52 AM     Points: 1112
friday at Granby I was going along and spotted a rock sticking out of the water. Thought that's impossible, this is deep water here, slowed down in fright, and checked depth:105' deep! This doesn't make sense, oh,no it's a body! Went right up to it and it was an elk carcass, that had been skinned. Pretty much in the middle of the lake. Talked to a guy who had seen a small boat with a big rack going across earlier.
To whoever dumped this, that's not the way brother. It's major littering,

You can call the CDOW and they will investigate for sure.

told dow and usfs, usfs has the responsibility for the lake surface. the guy i talked to said he'd call it in and he was pretty disgusted.

wow, I mean to go to all the trouble to drive out to the middle of the lake?? that absolutely baffles me, especially when I go elk hunting every year and have no success, why would mother nature reward someone like that?
Mind boggling that's for sure

That is not cool at all in fact they should lose their hunting privileges. Was it the whole carcass or the rib cage? Either way it's wrong to leave it like that.

I guess they didn't have a shovel and hadn't watched the gangster movies with the "concrete overshoes". All the meat was there. It was spoiled. The crawdads will be living large if they don't remove it. It'll get so bad the birds won't touch it.

Whom ever did it, rolling a big rock on them would be too good for the likes of them.

Yea..who ever did that can leave the state now..your return is not needed.

what if the elk was already dead in the water???

Would this still be as bad a situation?

Killing something and not using everything possible is horiible. If that is what happened

You would think that if the elk was illegally killed and left there floating in the lake that the guys would be easy to track down. It is my understanding that every boat that is inspected has its CL number documented. The DOW could start by searching the documented CL numbers and narrow the list down to the smaller boats on the list. They could even narrow the list e bit more by searching the area # of the hunting grounds that border the lake and look to see if the owner of a small boat (that was inspected) matches the person with a hunting license for that area. I guess if the boat was not inspected or the person did not have a hunting license that they would be back to square one. I do understand the budget cuts and such so they may not even investigate into this manner.

I really hope there is a better explination to why the elk was in the middle of the lake floating around apposed to the assumptions some of us have made but its looking like poaching to me. Who Knows?????

Tight lines- Jake

It could have been dumped in the lake, sunk, and floated up again .From where it was I'd say it had been dumped after it had bloated, in the last 24 hours. They probably took it to the camp site without dressing it, maybe got it very nearby. What the heck????
Maybe they were poaching, I know they were lazy. My brother in law seemed sure of the state they were from, but I don't know how he knew that.

what part of the lake did you find it at? there was a big wall tent and hunters up colombine bay this past weekend, it would be nice to catch them and give the same treatment.
