Barr Lake

Post By: Zebco      Posted: 4/16/2007 2:50:50 PM     Points: 128
When: 8-12 Sunday before the wind
Weather: Clear and Calm
Boat: Yes (10 hp & less or electric)
Water Temp: I do not know.
Clarity: Some debris in water but very clear 10-15 feet vis.
Water Level: High
Lure/Bait: Jig head and minnow

Results: I caught 2 keeper wallies 17 & 20" and 1 18" rainbo trout.
I was using big minnows on a 1/8 or 1/4 head.
Great lunch!

Saw several 30-40" carp in the shallow areas.
No bass or crappie.
I heard it has been slow from shore.

Pictures coming soon.

Good deal, nice to see that you had some success (and a tastey one at that). I have never fished Barr but am thinking about it. I was planning at hopefully getting after some wiper, bass and walleye. Did you happen to see any surface activity with regard to the wiper? Also, any tips that you would be willing to provide as far as areas of the lake to concentrate my efforts on would be greatly appreciated (especially since it's electric motors only and getting to any given location can take some time). Again, congrats and thanks for any help that you could provide. Take care and best of luck!

You can use 10 hp & less otherwise electric only. Barr lake is your typical res used for irrigation. It is significantly lower by July, but by then the vegitation takes over. Usually there are huge floating weeds/vines that are used by bass. 1/2 of the res is off limits for fishing, only bird watching...I would invest in a topo map of the lake to see under water structure. While the water is high there is significant cover trees/bushes etc on the south side of the res. I did not see any surface activity with regards to wiper. a few degress away still l think.

Good luck.
