Its been a long time since I've used pop gear, not since my father passed a decade ago. He loved to troll and we frequently used pop-gear. We tied the gear to our line, sometimes using large swivels so we could swap out the different types quickly. Our line was usually 10-12 # test, then to the other end used a 12-18 inch leader (4-6#)with a worm hook (or worm harness), which we baited with earthworms or occasionally a nightcrawler. Sometime we'd use small spoons or flies, but worms were Dad's preference.

I will give pop-gear its due, we caught a lot of trout that way. I guess it attacts the fish's attention.

What species are you targeting? Many times if you're fishing for pike or trout, pop gear is unnecessary. You can give me a call if you would like so I can be more detailed with you on tactics and gear. (303) 947-8327, ask for Nathan.
