High Plains Drifters (HPD) Fly Fishing Club meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (except July and December) in SW Denver. Our meetings are held in the “Fanatix” Room at Red and Jerry’s. The restaurant is located at 1840 W. Oxford Avenue (Santa Fe and Oxford Avenues) in Southwest Denver. We encourage members to be there by 6:00 p.m. to have some dinner. Our programs start at 7:00 p.m. The presentations are educational in nature and very interesting. Raffles are conducted at each meeting with some wonderful prizes.
We try to sponsor a trip for the members at least once a month from April through October. Our annual premier trip is to the Green River in Utah in the spring. Notable trips in the past have included the following areas: the Gray Reef/ North Platte River and Wind River Range in Wyoming, Stagecoach and Williams Fork reservoirs for Pike Fishing, the Gunnison River for Salmon Fishing, Trappers Lake, Delaney Buttes, the Conejos River, the Fryingpan River, the Arkansas River, and Antero Reservoir. We are always looking for new areas to go to!
HPD hosts clinics on fly tying and rod building every year. On stream clinics have been held in the past with instructors such at Pat Dorsey and Landon Meyer. The fee for the clinics will vary depending on the activity.
The club takes great pride in sponsoring an annual Kids Day to encourage and educate youngsters in the wonderful sport of Fly Fishing.
The club is a 100% affiliate of the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF). Our individual annual dues are $50 ($15 for HPD and $35 for FFF). Family memberships (husband/wife and children) are $35 per year for FFF. Please come and join us!
