4/1/2011 (Return to blogs)
Changes are a good thing. Terry Wickstom told me that when he called with the news.  The Ticket Outdoors is moving up the dial. Hopefully those of you who weren't able to get 87.7 FM will get one of the 2 new signals. 102.3 FM or 105.5 FM.  This weeks guest on The FishExplorer.com Fishing Report at 8:45 is our own Jeff Jones. Jeff blogs for us and is director of the Rocky Mountain Team Series Bass Tournaments. We will talk about early season bass tactics and how to get involved with tournament bass fishing.  Yes, Chad LaChance will be moving with the show.

Do you have Twitter?
You can follow me at TimfishmanEmery or follow FishExplorer.com at Fishexplorer.  This is a cool way to get in touch with us and see what is going on. We will be starting #FXR Chat sessions shortly.  If you don't have twitter sign up it's free. Once you sign up, do a search for us. Once you find us, make sure you put @symbol in front of our name so we know you are there. We will be introducing some cool prizes as part of our twitter promotion. You will have to be a FishExplorer.com member to win. More details to come. On Tuesday nights from 7-8 pm you can follow Dave Maynard at #Fishchat. Dave is the host of "Fish The Baja" and "Fishing Across America"

Spring fishing secret and tip!
In my opinion, April is the best time to fish the mountains. Rivers like the Eagle, Roaring Fork, Arkansas, Colorado, and The Blue are perfect. Before run off starts these rivers are in great shape. Everybody knows about the Mothers Day Caddis hatch on the Ark., but did you know it happens on the Eagle, Fork and lower Colorado? The hatches are not like the blankets that you get on the Ark, but they are close and the trout love Caddis.  My best tip for fishing a Caddis hatch is...... Use 2 Elk Hair Caddis. The first should be over sized so you can see it. I like size 10 or 12s. The second should match the hatch. Second best tip is..... Use a Blue Wing Olive or something different if the fish are refusing your caddis. Don't be afraid to twitch, move, or drag your caddis. This will often get you a strike.

Make sure you bring the right clothes. Spring fishing in the mountains can change 6 times in 2 hours. Rain, Snow, Sun, Blizzard, Sun, Rain, Snow... you get the point.

One last thing, come to the Larimer County Fishing Expo this weekend. We will be hanging out at the FishExplorer.com Booth.
