The Fishexplorer Comunity
Guest Blog by: Rob Stout 5/18/2015
I have been on Fishexplorer for a long time. I used to lurk and occasionally post on my dadís account from time to time starting in around 2009. I remember putting up a pic of what (at the time) I thought was a 5lb wiper. I was roasted by several guys on the site, and finally my dad stepped in and said ďhey, this is just a kidĒ. The positive stuff that followed was the first glimpse of the Fishexplorer community that Iíd ever seen. Bassackwards offered up an electric scale to me, and I was offered trips from several guys.
I started posting under my fishing dj account in early 2013. My first post was asking for help with pike fishing, and what I got in return was an in depth email from PikeNcolorado giving me more info than I could of imagined! This was yet another glimpse of the kindness found in the community.
Skip up to this January. A bunch of us were messing with Anglerwannabe telling him to go ice fishing. Over the course of a few days, a get-together was put together down at chatty. I wanted to make it down, but not having a license, I couldnít make the trip. The night before, I got an email from Jim (anglerwannabe) offering me a ride down. I immediately took him up on it, and met him outside of Longmont the next morning for a ride down.
One more that sticks out is a contest that Cookster put on. He was offering up free plus side memberships for those with the most fins ups, and the most lake updates. I went about my normal routine, submitting lake updates when I could. At the end of the competition period, I checked out the blog that was put up to see who won the contest. I scrolled down to see my name. I was floored. A few days later, I had plus out on my account. Cookster took out his own hard earned points that he could have used himself, but instead used to help out random people. It was one of the coolest things Iíve seen someone do on here.
Fishing with members from the site has even more of an impact on me. The first person that I fished with from the site was Bassackwards. We planned to meet at Boyd Lake and ice fish. I made it out, and he soon realized he forgot his license. He ended up heading home for the day, but I leaned quite a bit in the 10 minutes I had talked to him. The jigging pattern he was using on his hd ice is the jigging pattern that has caught me more fish tough the ice, regardless of bait.
I have also had the chance to fish with anglerwanabe, pikeNcolorado, ajreed8, IceFishingFool, FishingApex, WalleyeSlayer, goosehunter82, brooksey, a10flyer, bron, captain doughball, elkinthebag, and several others. I can tell you that all of those guys on the list above not only know their stuff, but are also nice guys really friendly. The knowledge Iíve gained from fishing with these guys in beyond valuable! If you notice, most of the names on that list are also major contributors on the site, and chances are you seen their names on the forum on a daily basis.
I could go on and on about the great things that I see on this site on a day to day basis, but the list would be too long to fit into a blog. The same goes with the people on the site that are more than willing to contribute and help out. The point Iím making is that I feel that Fishexplorer is less of a website, and more of a community. Sure, there are the trolls and people who end up with nothing but negative, but the positive outweighs the negative by masses! People are more than willing to help out, and the wealth of information that all of the members on this site has is just amazing. Iím sure that no matter what kind of fishing you do, someone on the site could help you or teach you more. I can honestly say that Fishexplorer has helped me become a better fisherman, and Iím sure it could help you too.

It really is a great group of guys here! The ones I have had the pleasure of meeting were all truly enjoyable to spend time with, and look forward to fishing with again. Some guys I have never met, but have helped me in more ways than I could have ever hoped. As you said, the trolls come and go, but the core guys on here make the site what it is.

You always hit the nail on the head with your blog posts Rob. I couldn't agree with you more about the community that we have here. There are so many great qualities and such a wealth of information. I am definitely glad to be a part of this, and always looking for better techniques and info.

It's seems many of us that have been on for a while definitely feel the same, well said Mr. Stout. I hope some day I'll have the opportunity to fish with all the good people in the fish explorer community, it would definitely take quite some time.

Hey Rob. One of the best posts I have read all year. Thank You. The older you get the more you will realize that is just as much fun to teach people (especially children) how to catch fish as it is to catch them yourself. That is one of the unsung beauties of this site.
Well written my man.

PikeN, I do still have it. We need to fish again for sure! It looks like I'll be in north park this weekend, but after next week, school is out and I'll be able to fish more!
