I had the pleasure of taking the winner of the Winter Giveaway Lake Trout trip to Granby this weekend 06/07/14. CONative (Thom) and his fiancée Julie met me at the Stillwater dock at 5:00AM for a day of fishing, and a Show and Tell session with the equipment and lures I like to use.
We headed back to the super secret Laker location (Lake Granby), put some lures down on the riggers, and managed a nice twenty inch Laker in an area I marked a good Kokanee school the week before.
Headed over to the next area I marked some good size Lakers the week before and made two to three passes on the GPS marks and Thom landed a nice 33 inch Laker suspended in 20 feet of water below another school of Kokes. The fish was like what Bob Seger said “was a little too tall and could have used a few pounds” but overall, a healthy normal looking Granby Laker.
When the sun made it over the ridge, the fishing slowed down and we managed a few more Lakers the next couple hours and called it quits at 11:30AM.
Thom we should have fished on Sunday. I started at 4:00AM. I landed two over 30 inches in the dark and was off the water before 7:00AM. That’s a good morning.
All in all, both mornings were good for fishing.
Thom is a good guy to fish with and was knowledgeable with the downrigger operations. I just showed him what I like to do and why. His fiancée Julie is a learning fisherman and was a quick learner of downrigger fishing.
Maybe next year I will put the same fishing trip again for the Winter Giveaway.
