Boomerang Tool Co. Grip

A few of you might remember the review that I did back this past spring on the Boomerang Tool Co. Snip. If you did not see it or you had not discovered the wonder that is Fish Explorer at that time, well don’t worry to much, basically you should check out the Boomerang Snip while you look at these pliers.

Boomerang Tool Company came out with their own twist on fishing pliers this past ICAST. ICAST is an annual expo where fishing manufacturers present their newest innovations to the world for the following season, much like the SHOT Show (Firearms Expo). Boomerang unveiled their Mini Grip, Grip, and Big Grip.

The following is an honest review of this product without any obligation to Boomerang Tool Company. The Grip in my opinion is my perfect set of fishing pliers. I have a few sets of pliers made by their competitors and the list of why I do not like those is the same as why I love the Grip by Boomerang.

The Grip has a thin yet strong needle nose, the teeth and line cutters are replaceable via purchasing the kit online or at your local store for a minimal price that is not set yet however likely to be just under $10. One pair of pliers that I have from a highly touted company are almost more difficult to use than their $50 price tag. They are bulky and the internal spring tension is too high, the Grip has a subtle spring load that allows for effortless use while not springing wide open when not in use.

The design of the Grip is ergonomic combined with a slip resistant rubber making them very usable even while handling our swimming friends. The Grip is made with a ring splitter and crimper for lure maintenance, and the design of the ring splitter on the tip of the pliers has a slightly different angle that most that I have used, making it an option for effectively removing those tough to displace hooks. In my professional opinion, these were well thought out and will last a life time, or their warranty will replace them.

The Big Grip is a solid work horse like most other heavy duty pliers that are ideally used for saltwater. Personally these are better used for fish with big mouths and big gear needing a sturdy grip, were talking hooks people, these are not meant to be used as a bolt tightener. The major difference in the Big Grip over competitor designs is the actual grip of these pliers. Words will not clearly define the effect these have on your hands while using them. If you are thinking, that your pliers work just fine, please feel free to keep using them. For me, Boomerang sent me these pliers to review and after using them, going back to other pliers would be like wearing cotton again after switching to performance moisture wicking clothing.

The Mini Grip is exactly that, Mini! They have the appearance of the Big Grip and performance much like the Grip. Although these are a tad small for my liking, they do have their niche, some people like small pliers and I will admit that attaching these to the Boomerang retractable lanyard and letting them hang from your waste while multitasking a 2.5 year old, camera, fish, and pole makes finding them in a ready to use position a whole lot easier. Other designs are much to heavy for this.

Topping it all off, Boomerang packaged these pliers in an amazing sheath/holster. They feature a molded form for easy placement of your pliers without fumbling or extra effort to use or replace them from their resting place. The holster also features a Velcro strap for retention and a 360 degree swivel clip that allows you to position the angle of your pliers to your liking. The clip of the holster can be used over a belt or on the waistline of your pants or shorts, the clip will not slip or fall off, giving you peace of mind while on the water or walking the shore line. Speaking of on the water, I do this and you can as well without voiding the warranty, take the pliers apart via the centrally located screw/pin and place reel grease in the action to keep it from rusting in salt water use.
