Eldorado National Forest Dirt Road Seasonal Closure in Effect Jan. 1st
USFS press release
Eldorado National Forest native surface roads (referred to as dirt roads) will be seasonally closed to the public on Jan. 1, said Forest Supervisor Laurence Crabtree. They will remain closed until at least April 1. Roads subject to the seasonal closure are identified on a free-of-charge map that is available at all Eldorado National Forest offices. The maps are also on the web at:

“All dirt roads and trails on the Eldorado National Forest are closed to motor vehicle use between January 1 and March 31 as part of the minimum seasonal closure identified in the Eldorado National Forest Travel Management Plan,” said Crabtree. “Seasonal closures may be longer if roads or trails are wet and susceptible to damage.”

“My desire is to keep the Forest as accessible to the public as much as possible,” said Crabtree. “The seasonal closure is designed to protect roadbeds and watersheds from damage and to safeguard water quality.”

The seasonal closure does not affect routes in the Rock Creek Area of the Eldorado National Forest near Georgetown, which has its own route closure process.
