Inyo National Forest Employees Receive Secretary of Agriculture’s Honor Award for Sustainable Practices

Bishop, Calif., Dec.11, 2013 - Inyo National Forest employees Adrienne Dunfee and Nora Gamino, along with Renee Jewell of the Region 5 Regional Office, have been selected for the Secretary of Agriculture’s Award for Management Excellence for their joint efforts and dedication to the field of Sustainable Operations.
Dunfee and Gamino of the Inyo National Forest Engineering Staff have implemented numerous projects on the forest that are directly related to sustainability of Forest Service facilities.
Noted projects include the installation of the photovoltaic system at the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center and the recently completed Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center, which is completely off the grid and received Gold Certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.
Installation of a photovoltaic system at the Eastern Sierra Interagency Visitors Center should be completed in 2014.
The Inyo National Forest has been selected to receive an additional $1.3 million for the installation of photovoltaic systems at administrative facilities on the forest.
“The Inyo National Forest is delighted that Adrienne and Nora have been selected for the prestigious Secretary’s Honor Award,” said Forest Supervisor Edward Armenta. “Their dedication to sustainable operations and sustainable building design reflect the goals and mission of the Inyo National Forest and the US Forest Service.”
