Holidays Lead to Marin Headlands Congestion Tunnel Project Dates Updated
MARIN HEADLANDS -- The National Park Service and Federal Highway Administration have announced changes to construction dates for the Baker-Barry Preservation Project:
A morning closure of the tunnel is scheduled for 9AM to noon on Thursday, December 29 for project preparations. (This closure had been previously announced for December 19.)
The extended project closures will now commence on Monday, January 9, including the tunnel as well as parking and vehicle pull-out areas on Conzelman Road. (These closures were previously announced for January 2 and are still scheduled to last through the first week of May.)
Expect heavy congestion to continue in the Marin Headlands afternoons through January 1. An increase in visitation during the holidays as well as daytime closures of Golden Gate Bridge parking lots are contributing to afternoon delays of up to two hours traveling to and within the Marin Headlands. Visit http://go.nps.gov/tunnel for more information about the tunnel preservation project as well as suggestions for alternative locations for Golden Gate Bridge views while visiting Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
