Hot Creek is based described as, well, a "hot" fishery. This fishery offers the perfect habitat for large numbers of rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout. Some are wild and some are planted. Getting there:
Take the Hot Creek Airport/Hatchery road exit off Hwy 395 just south of the Hwy 203 junction to the town of Mammoth Lakes. Follow the signs along paved and dirt roads to the many parking areas on the rim of the gorge. Roads are not plowed in winter. This is a sprawling, sun exposed area, so snow should only be a problem if Mammoth receives a dumping.
