Originally called Crane Valley Reservoir, Bass Lake’s name came about when a lumber company was force to restock the lake after polluting the waters resulting in a total fish kill. Getting there:
From Oakhurst take Crane Valley Road (Road 426 east) to south side of lake.
North access, take California 42 north from Oakhurst to Yosemite Forks. Take Road 222 east (Bass Lake Road) to reservoir. Note Road 222 turns into Road 274 (Malum Ridge Road).
