Kids

Took my four year old granddaughter out Sunday for a bit of fly fishing. I'd bought her a rod, line, and reel. She was excited to go, and did well with the new rod, in terms of stripping line in.

The issue is she's "scared" of fish. Not sure how that came to be, but with the first she brought it in and then ran off yelling "don't let it touch me." Got her back with the rod, but she'd drop it and run at a strike and when I landed a fish she would come anywhere close.

So we called it and went to the playground. Not quite sure what the next steps will be, as she enjoys the outings and the idea of fishing. Dealing with caught fish, well that's a bit of an issue.

At four, she's young and I'm sure with time, this too will pass.

The mouth thing will continue for a while. At some point, all kids get strange about things. Alexandria is fearless around farm animals and on playgrounds, but then goes berserk with bugs, fish, snakes, and such. Sometimes I wonder if it isn't too many kids shows, and not enough outside time. But in today's world kids aren't pushed out the door and allowed to roam as I was.
