As of late I've been chasing carp on the long rod. While many chase them sight fishing, I do as well fishing dingy water and blind casting. I like large, heavily weight flies that hug the bottom. Black, black/chartreuse, and browns are my preferred colors.
The "trick" is to locate active fish, preferably good numbers of them. Cast beyond (or into the area), let the fly make the bottom, and then use a quick short strip with a long (2-3 second) pause. Carp seem to have a need to see movement and then go to it. They don't like things coming at them. So the pause allows them to approach the fly in comfort.
Here's a picture of a 29 incher from last weekend.
Any other carp anglers out there?
