Based in Santa Monica, our club draws members from the Greater Los Angeles area including West LA, the South Bay and the Valley. Each year the women and men of Wilderness Fly Fishers pursue their sport from Alaska to Argentina and from New Zealand to Newfoundland. (Often our members are enjoying fly fishing vacations won in either our spring Conservation Super Auction or our holiday Conservation Super Raffle!)
We also do a lot of fly fishing in Southern California, from the surf in nearby Santa Monica Bay to the local pristine trout streams tucked away in the Los Padres and Angeles National Forests. Wilderness Fly Fishers regularly schedules outings to these areas as well as the fabled waters of the Eastern Sierra including the Owens River, Mammoth Lakes, Hot Creek and the East Walker River.
We meet for dinner and a presentation by a guest speaker each month with the exceptions of March, August, September, and December.
Our monthly meetings are usually held at the Olympic Collection, 11301 Olympic Boulevard in West Los Angeles (the corner of Sawtelle and Olympic.)
Generally, we meet on the Tuesday before the third Thursday of the month. (But be sure and check the Events Calendar on our website to confirm date and place – and to make your reservation!)
We begin at 6:00 with Wet Flies (a no host bar) and, typically, a fly tying demonstration by that night's speaker. Dinner and a raffle follow at 7:00, then we conclude the evening with the speaker's presentation.
Members and nonmembers alike are welcome. And while we prefer that you make a reservation in advance, it is not absolutely necessary.
