Getting there:
CO-7 to Co Hwy 115 to Wild Basin Trailhead. Reaching Thunder Lake requires an aggressive day hike of 6.7 miles one-way from the trailhead. Be sure to use the short-cut trail connecting Wild Basin Trail to Thunder Lake Trail. If you plan on fishing Box Lake and its drainage, consider making this an overnight trip. The three miles or so from the Wild Basin trailhead is an easy day hike, then the altitude gain begins, rising nearly 1,800 feet over the next four miles.
