Sprague lake is a small (13 acres), shallow lake. It is named for Abner Sprague, a guide and lodge host in the area in the early 1900's. He dammed and expanded the lake to improve fishing for guests before RMNP was formed. "Sprague was the fist person to pay to enter Rocky Mountain National Park", the cost was $3. (nps.gov)
