Alexander Lake on the Grand Mesa boasts a long and interesting history. An English aristocrat, William Radcliffe, purchased many of the lakes in the area in 1896. The locals tended to ignore his private ownership and continued to fish the lakes without a permit, which was available for a fee. Getting there:
From Cedaredge, travel north on Highway 65 16.0 miles and turn right onto Forest Road 121 just past the Forest Service Visitor Center. Go 1.3 miles to Alexander Lake on the right side of the road.
From Mesa, travel south approximately 22.4 miles to FS121, located on the left just past Cobbett Lake, and follow instructions above to the lake.
