Lake San Cristobal, Colorado’s second-largest natural lake, was formed hundreds of years ago when the Slumgullion Slide blocked the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River. Getting there:
From Gunnison, west on U.S. Highway 50, take Highway 149 south to Lake City. Continue through Lake City and look for County Road 30. The turn will be on your right. Travel approximately two miles to the lake. Roads circle the whole lake so access is excellent.
