Lake: Antero Reservoir

Think this will work?

So my gf has taken a liking to fly tying and Iíve been just giving her a general idea of what to tie. Iíve heard scud patterns work well at Antero, and that brown should be a good color. She came back with this... do you guys think itís a winner? Gonna test it out Sunday.

That's a beautiful fly (but lose the tail). She's got talent! Marry her, or at least adopt her.

Olive is the generally-favored color for scuds. Or orange for a dead one. Brown may be olive-enough to pass, though.

But it used to be you'd see scuds crawling all over in the weeds every time you brought up an anchor in Antero or Spinney. But they don't do well when the water level varies a lot, which Spinney has, and Antero drops to a dead pool every time they "reclaim" it. As a result (?) I haven't seen a scud in either lake in years, so I've quit fishing them myself.

Let us know if the pattern works.

PS - Don't have her tie any more up. Your chances of it working go up enormously if you only have one fly with you, no spares.

Looks good. Agree. Brown = good. Olive Green = best.

Actually, its a killer tie for a scud. Instead of current tail add a very small marabou puff of a tail... very slim and no longer than body.... that movement when twitched under a bobber or in the waves is what you need. Think movement in a lake... x10 on strikes with the same fly

also ... go generic on pattern design...a fly that will imitate several insects at a single time like most of Rickards patterns... take the basic and tweak it to your liking. Dial in specifics when the fish get specific. Great ties for someone "just picking it up" lol

Beautiful fly, good job tying it. I've done well with a olive scud or even a pink one. It may work now that is approaching fall, those are colors I throw for brown trout when i use jerkbaits.
