Flooding at Canyon Lake

Wowzers! What a month May has been at Canyon Lake. After record drought conditions in 2011 we are now sitting at over 8" of rain for the month (based on my backyard rain gauge, local stations report about 4-7")! We received nearly 5" in the past 24 hours with much of it coming down at one time this morning. It led to water draining across our property and down to the lake at a rate I have never seen before. Our small pond was overflowing and we had a small river in the yard. I had to break a rock wall to let the water out of the backyard. I also had to put sandbags to prevent water from coming into the front doors of our house! It got to within 1/2" of coming into the house. These photos don't do the water flow justice as I took them only after I had secured much of the house and the water flow has slowed down.

That's our Texas! The only way it knows how to break a drought is with a flood.
