Hey guys, a buddy and I are thinking about fishing somewhere on the Texas coast, fly-fishing for redfish and/or speckled trout. Neither of us have any relevant salt-water experience so we're looking for a guide. There's about ten thousand of them listed on the internet but would really like to have one recommended based on your personal experience. Any and all recommendations are gratefully accepted.
Flyrodn, CO 5/15/2013 1:53:08 PM We fished Port Aransas a few years back from kayaks. We used these folks, http://slowrideguide.com/. I requested a "teacher" and made it clear I was more interested in learning, than catching. They filled the bill nicely and we did catch also.

I would recommend in my opinion the best guide down there Jay Watkins - here is his site: http://www.jaywatkins.com
He and his son Jay Ray are some of the only guides down there who actually guide full time year round and they are strictly artificial only. They will take you out to fly cast but the conditions down there can be very tough with the wind. I would recommend you consider wading with a bait casting rod and just use the salt water bass assassins. You can really do well with this setup and using their knowledge as they will put you on fish!
Best of luck,
