What Did You Get For Christmas?

What did you get for Christmas?
I got to see happy grandchildren! I didn't get anything fishing related, but that's because I tell everyone not to buy me anything fishing related. There's a reason for that - almost anything anyone gets me that's fishing related will be wasted money. Either I already have it, or it'll be something I don't need and can't use.
Fishing tackle is peculiar that way. You could buy me the exact same gun as I already have and I would be happy as all get out. But buy me the same rod I already have and it's a waste of money. I don't know why it's different between guns and rods, but for me it is. Buy me flys and I already have them or they won't be useful here. And on and on...besides, I am most particular about fishing gear. It has to be exactly, and I mean EXACTLY, what I want in every single aspect. It has to be matched to everything else that goes with it - for example, if someone bought me fly line it would probably be wrong in some fundamental way for the way I fish.
Basically no one but myself can pick out what I want - and it takes me a long time, a lot of study and concentration to buy for myself. I'm hard to buy for, even for me. This isn't picking up stuff off that shelf at random buying we're talking about. And then as I mentioned before, Lord save me from the junk fishing gear gifts. That requires all my acting skills to not hurt feelings, leaving me tired and exhausted.
So what did you get for Christmas?
Got plans for New Year's Eve?
For me those plans have changed over the years. I used to be one of the wild-eyed adventurers that strode forth into the public bars and clubs and acted the rascal. Later it became private celebrations, family and close friends - still with a lot of booze and bad hangovers. Later still it became a ceremonial sip of champagne at midnight, sometimes having to be awakened in order to partake - no parties or hangovers involved. Now days I just treat it like any other day - except I eat blackeye peas on New Years day. Supposed to be good luck you know. That's what I'll do this year. Go to bed at the usual time, wake up at the usual time in no pain, and eat black eye peas for lunch.
How about you?
