 Biography:
Colorado Ice Fishing is simply one of the best things you will ever do. Dave grew up in the Vail area and went to school in northern minesota where he played hockey. Dave also officiated Ice Hockey in the Western junior League and has worked several Dallas Stars training camps in Colorado. If you don't find him on tourquise Lake you might see him running along the Lake getting ready for the Leadville 100 trail running race. It is one of the hardest coarses in the world...due to a combination of alltitude and terrain it is a but kicker. Anyone on the lake august 16th should keep an eye out for him.
I think you will find that some of the things Dave uses on the ice are some of the most basic techniques around. The deadly drop shot rig and other techniques are not out of the ordinary for trout and many other species. Vertical jigging for Lake Trout, Macs, Mackinaw are one of the most enjoyable and rewarding things you will ever do. If you can catch a Laker on plastics you can catch anything. Here are some of Dave's mentors that Dave has had a privilege to work with over the years. The Pike Place fish market, all of the fish mongers, John Yokoyama, Ron Lindner, Al Lindner who always were there for some great radio interviews and never said no. Tom Johnson or Doc Johnson with Matzuo. Tod Helton, Uncle Ted or some people call him Ted Nugent who showed for a fifteen minute interview and ended up staying all night. You will find Dave at Bass Pro shops on the weekends and on the ice during the winter. As a well respected "Pro Staff" member, Dave works with several major manufacturers in the fishing industry. Dave is usually right on the edge of the angling scene. Dave has many opportunities to work with products before they become available to the general public. Dave has recently taken up xtreme running and training and will be finishing his first 100 miler this year.
