Monument Lake is a 40 acre reservoir in the Tri-Lakes area, which includes the communities of Monument, Palmer Lake, Woodmar, and Larkspur. The three lakes are Lake Woodmar (private), Monument Lake, and Palmer Lake, another popular area. The surrounding hills and mountains provide numerous opportunities for fun and recreation. Much of the area is accessible through a complex network of trails winding through the communities.
The Town of Monument manages the lake and surrounding land as a Town Park. Other than the group picnic areas, access to the park is free. Park hours are from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Swimming and overnight camping are prohibited. There is no boat ramp and boating is restricted to non-motorized hand launched craft. Managed primarily as a put and take trout fishery, the reservoir offers excellent fishing for rainbows. Additionally, CDOW has been stocking warm water species such as catfish and largemouth bass which offer angling opportunities during the warmer summer months.
CDOW 2009 forecast:
Water levels in Monument Lake have been very good for the past couple of years which has allowed for stocking of both warm water as well as coldwater species. Monument is scheduled to be stocked with 18,000 rainbow trout as well as 2,000 channel catfish and 3,000 largemouth bass. Anglers are asked to please be respectful of the area surrounding the lake as numerous complaints were received last year regarding off-road vehicle use and abuse of facilities.
