St. Vrain State Park (Barbour Ponds), Firestone Colorado - St. Vrain State Park (Barbour Ponds) offers a variety of recreational opportunities including fishing, camping, birdwatching, and hiking.
St. Vrain State Park formerly known as Barbour Ponds, is an ideal place for anglers, campers, photographers, and bird watchers. The numerous ponds in the park offer anglers a variety of species to pursue. The ponds are stocked regularly throughout the year with catchable rainbow trout, as well as other species.
In addition to fishing, there are spectacular views of Longs Peak and the Rockies and a variety of wildlife that live within the park. The recently completed Phase II renovations brought the number of campsites to 87 campsites. St. Vrain State Park also offers leisurely hiking trails that encircle Pelican, Bald Eagle and Coot Ponds. There is also a one mile trail called Muskrat Trail that circles Sandpiper Pond. Aside from the exercise these trails provide great access for shore anglers.
Getting there: Take I-25 to Exit 240 (Longmont Exit) Head east 1 mile to CR7. Go North 1/2 mile to Road 24.5 and head east 3/4 mile to the entrance. Fees: Colorado State park pass $6 daily Boating: Electric Motors Only. Vessels that are hand or foot propelled, or with electric trolling motors are permitted on the ponds. Inflatable devices that contain two or more chambers are also permitted. All vessels must be hand launched. Ice Fishing: Ice Fishing Allowed
There are a total of 87 campsites open for camping. Sites 1-41 have electric hookups. Water hydrants available to fill tanks and there is a dump station at the exit of the campground. Sites 42-87 have water, sewer, and electric hookups..
