Georgetown Lake, Georgetown Colorado - Located due north of Georgetown, parallel to Interstate 70, this reservoir offers easy access for travelers. It's a popular fishing and wildlife viewing area, especially for Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep.
Georgetown Lake is only one of many attractions around Georgetown, which include a restored narrow gage railroad line, museums, and wildlife viewing, especially for the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep that frequate the area. Where it not for the close proximity to the town and interstate, one could easily imagine theirself visiting a remote high country water.
The reservoir, while not know as a trophy class water, nonetheless produces good numbers of rainbows, browns, and an occasional brook trout, thanks in part to frequent stocking by Colorado Divison of Wildlife. Good fishing, coupled with easy access and a chance to see Bighorn Sheep, help explain the popularity of this fishery, not only in the summer, but throughout the winter as well.
Getting there: From Denver. Take Interstate 70 to Georgetown, take exit 228, toward Georgetown, turning right at the stop sign to the lake. Fees: None. Boating: Non Motorized Only. No sailboats in excess of 16 feet in length. Ice Fishing: Ice fishing allowed
9/1/2010 - Georgetown Lake - Fishing for Rainbows picked up this past week, although fishing in general has been slow. Salmon egg and worm combinations have been working the best. Keep an eye to the sky for any signs of lightning, springtime weather can change quickly, be prepared. The Lake is typically stocked with catchable-sized rainbow trout and is home for some brown, cutthroat and brook trout. The south side of the lake offers good fishing along with natural windbreaks, which can come in handy in this typically windy canyon.
