Pinewood is a small lake perched in the foothills west of Loveland. The lake is popular among shore fisherman and produces trout along the banks and in the Fisherman's Cove area. Tiger muskie have been stocked in the lake and most of the structure is accessible from shore. There is now a permanent buoy line near the outlet area, preventing boats from getting stuck in the strong whirlpool current created by the outlet pipe. Pinewood offers camping along the shore in developed sires most of the sites near the lake and launch do not have any shelter. If camping at Pinewood try the Windy Pines campground which has both walk-in and reservable sites. There is a trail and an open space area around the lake.
Getting there: From I-25 exit at 257B (Highway 34 - Loveland) heading west. Continue west through Loveland on US Highway 34 (Called Eisenhower in Loveland) Watch for the "Carter Lake" road sign just past mile marker #85. Turn left (south) onto County Road 29 and continue for 2 miles. Turn right (west) onto County Road 18E and 6 1/2 miles to the lake.

7/27/2010 - Pinewood Reservoir - 07/19/10: Fishing at Pinewood has been very good recently. Worms and PowerBait continue to be the most effective, with flies being preferred in the dawn and dusk hours. A 19" brown trout was caught recently in the inlet area. There have been no reports of tiger muskie catches recently. This reservoir was last stocked on June 28th with catchable trout. Please remember that all trailered watercraft MUST be inspected for Aquatic Nuisance Species (Zebra Mussels) before launch. The closest inspection station can be found at the North Ramp of Carter Lake. Windy Pines sits on a hill overlooking the lake just north of the launch area. The campground provides 8 walk-in sites and 5 non-electric sites.
Launch Area# of Sites: 11 Fees: $12
The Launch area campground sits right along the water' edge. The sites are close together and do not provide any shade.
Blue Mountain# of Sites: 4 Fees: $12
The Blue Moutain campground provides 4 sites in the souther section of the lake away from the other sites. The sites are open and do not provide any shaded areas. Good site if you have a large group and can reserve all 4 together.
